Berkane beat Pirates in nail-biting penalty shootout to win Confed Cup tittle

Morocco’s RS Berkane have been crowned the TotalEnergies Caf Confederation Cup champions after defeating Orlando Pirates 5-4 on penalties at the Godwill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, on Friday night.

The mouthwatering showdown ended 1-all after extra-time.

Youssef El Fahli opened the scoring in the 97th minute of the extra-time to give the Moroccan side a lead from a spot kick.

There was plenty of spice on and off the pitch, while both managers were animated on the touchline.

However, the unfazed Bucs pulled one back three minutes before the final whistle through Thembinkosi Lorch.

In the end, it was Berkane who walked away victorious on penalties.

The showpiece was one of the most thrilling final matches of the Confederation Cup and it did not disappoint. In fact, it was utterly breathless, wildly unpredictable and wonderfully intense from first whistle to last.
