Ex-Baroka star on fire in North Africa
The switch from the South African league to far-flung North Africa is certainly not an easy one. It involves life changes – a new city, new language, new football styles and cultures and new people all around.
But a former Baroka FC star is adapting well to life in Sudan.
Malawi international Gerald Phiri continued with his fine form when he scored and provided an assist for Al Hilal Omdurman as they romped to a 7-0 win over Al-Amal Atbara in a Sudanese Premier League match on Friday night.
Al Hilal had Muhammad Abdul Rahman also to thank on Friday after he bagged a hat-trick. The other goals came from Walid Al-Shula and Agagon.
It was Phiri’s third goal, and he has also amassed three assists since his switch from Baroka in the DStv Premiership a few months ago.
The former Bidvest Wits and Platinum Stars winger was also on target for Al Hilal on Wednesday when Al Hilal thrashed Gedaref Police 5-0 at Al-Hilal Stadium.
Abdul Raouf, Al-Shula, Muhammad and Abdul Rahman were the other scores on Wednesday.
It was the league leaders Al Hilal’s biggest victory they have registered this season.
Al Hilal lead the log table with 40 points from 16 games, two points ahead of cross-town rivals Al Merreikh.
