Fleurs attributes accolade to hard work
SuperSport United’s Luke Fleurs, who won the 2021/22 DStv Premiership Young Player of the year award, described his recognition as ‘all the hard work paying off’.
Fleurs was instrumental for Matsatsantsa in the just concluded league campaign making 20 appearances for his side.
The 22-year-old defender faced tight competition in the youngster award category, with Stellenbosch FC defender Athenkosi Mcaba and Orlando Pirates striker Kwame Peprah also eyeing the award.
“To me, to get there, it’s a really good feeling to see all the hard work paying off. Getting the award, it’s a very nice feeling. It means a lot to me. There are a lot of youngsters, really good young talent in the PSL that makes senior players nervous,” said Fleurs.
“It’s not a nice feeling to go through a season without an award. Even as a team, it’s not nice; individually, it’s even worse.”
The Cape Town-born star thanked his club for giving him the opportunity to play football regularly.
“I would like to thank SuperSport United and my coaching staff for allowing me to play as many games and showcase my talent,” he concluded.
