Mngqithi expresses his admiration for underrated Marumo left-back
Mamelodi Sundowns beat Marumo Gallants to win the Nedbank Cup this past Saturday, but there are a lot of players from the runners up that caught the attention of Downs co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi.
Before the match at Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace and post the victory, Mngqithi mentioned players such as Phillip Ndlondlo, Celimpilo Ngema, Miguel Timm, Sibusiso Sibeko, and Katlego Otaldisa as some of the key players for Gallants.
He singled out former Baroka, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and Black Leopards left-back Lebohang Mabotja for praise.
Mabotja, who saw his move to Bloemfontein Celtic collapse in the last minute two seasons ago, has resurrected his career at the Limpopo club.
The 30-year-old was amongst the players who featured the most for Bahlabane Ba Ntwa this season.
“There are very underrated players in the team. The left-back (Lebo Mabotja) for me he is one of the best and very intelligent,” Mngqithi told the media in Rustenburg.
“It surprises me to be honest because not many South African fullbacks do most of the things that he does both offensively and defensively, and structurally he always knows where to be on rest events to be in attack. He is a very good player.”
