Clayton Daniels headlines eight Maritzburg United exits
After a season and a half at Maritzburg United, Clayton Daniels has been released by the KZN club alongside seven others. The Team of Choice became the third PSL team to announce a mass clearout after Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu.
In a statement, the club revealed that Daniels, Steven Pereira, Lucky Baloyi, Nazeer Allie, Riyaaz Ismail, Phumlani Ntshangase, Ryan Rae and Thato Lesoma were all released. Their contracts are either about to expire or have a renewal option which the club decided not to exercise.
Pereira’s risky injury situation was reportedly why the club decided not to keep him, while Baloyi struggled to hit the ground running after joining the club in January from Royal AM.
“We would also like to thank all the players for their efforts and contribution to the club and wish them every success in their future endeavours,” the club said.
The Pietermaritzburg-based club has 16 players left and “will make an announcement when our new acquisitions have been finalised”. At least 10 new players are expected to join the club ahead of next season.
Maritzburg report for pre-season training at the beginning of July, just five weeks before the new season kicks off on August 12.
