Sibiya pens two-year deal with Stellies
Stellenbosch FC has gotten off the mark in style in the transfer market by completing a two-year deal for Vusi Sibiya, who is a free agent after terminating his deal with relegated Baroka recently.
Sibiya was left with a year on his contract with the relegated side, and an agreement was reached last week to release him. Stellies beat Sekhukhune United for the 27-year-old defender’s signature.
He comes in as a replacement for Zitha Kwinika, who reunited with his boyhood club Kaizer Chiefs. Like Kwinika, the big defender, who turns 28 next month, possesses the hallmarks of an intelligent defender. He is confident on the ball and has good organisational skills at the back.
The Cape Town club part ways with several senior players, including Robyn Johannes, and would be happy to have an experienced defender next to 20-year-old Athenkosi Mcaba.
The Soshanguve-born star joined Bakgaga in 2018 from Varsity Football side Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and quickly rose to become the fulcrum of the club’s defence.
“I was inexperienced when I joined Baroka, coming straight from Varsity Football, but I’ve grown tremendously over the last four seasons. I feel I’m ready for a new challenge,” he told FARPost recently.
