In a motivating move for teams participating in the ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs, the South African Football Association (SAFA) has announced that Bafana Bafana squad for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) will be picked at next week’s showdown, confirmed SAFA CEO Advocate Tebogo Motlanthe.
For the first time in the history of the competition, 18 teams will participate in the next final tournament set to take place in Algeria in January and February 2023.
The CHAN tournament is meant to bring together players who compete in their respective domestic leagues.
The 2021/22 ABC Motsepe National Playoffs will take place at the North West University in the Potchefstroom campus, North West from 14-19 June 2022.
The draw was conducted at the SAFA House on Monday, with three groups consisting of three teams in each group.
The semi-finals will be played on Friday 17 June 2022 at Olen Park Stadium, with the final to be played at the same venue on 19 June 2022. The two finalists will gain automatic promotion to the GladAfrica Championship.
Meanwhile, Limpopo, North West and Northern Cape are yet to confirm their champions as DC matters are still outstanding.
On another fascinating note, Mamelodi Sundowns Performance Analyst Dayle Solomons added that they will provide performance analysis services to the teams at the playoffs and they will record games and share them with the teams and also provide 45 minutes analysis sessions.
The champions on the day will walk away with R1 million in prize money, while the runner-up will receive R600 000, with an additional R200 000 to be given to clubs for development in their LFA/Region.
