Hlongwane not worried about lack of goals in MLS
Bafana striker Bongokuhle Hlongwane says he feels no pressure about his lack of goals in Major League Soccer and is confident goals will start coming soon.
The former Maritzburg United forward aims to break his goal drought with the national team as they are preparing to face Morocco on Thursday night in Rabat.
He believes his inclusion in the Bafana squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers by coach Hugo Broos shows his ability on the field of play.
The 21-year-old has struggled for form with Minnesota United, only registering two assists in 14 games.
“Talking about goals, I don’t want to lie; I don’t know what’s going on because I won’t say I’m not getting chances. I’m creating chances for the team; they are also creating chances for me. I’m always at the right place at the right time,” said Hlongwane.
“I don’t [feel the pressure], but sometimes I feel like I’m putting myself under pressure because I know what I can do when put in the field. I’m waiting for the right time, I don’t know which one is, but it’s coming.” says the Bafana striker Bongokuhle Hlongwane
“I have to believe in myself; I have to keep pushing. Sometimes I lose belief, but things like these happen in football. It happens even to big players, but they keep on going.”
The Pietermaritzburg-born winger revealed his wish to score against Morocco if given an opportunity saying, “I hope [to score] against Morocco; for us, this is an important game, away from home.”
