Banyana Banyana mentor Desiree Ellis has called up Rhoda Mulaudzi to replace the injured Gabriela Salgado for the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) preliminary squad.
Salgado fractured her collarbone during JVW’s Hollywoodbets Super League clash against Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies on Wednesday.
The Blue Diamonds confirmed that the star frontwoman fell awkwardly and broke her collarbone, which rules her out of action for eight weeks.
The 24-year-old was part of Ellis’ 33-member preliminary squad.
“It is a massive loss because she has been a key player for us. But this also gives others in the squad an opportunity to step up. We wish Gabby a speedy recovery,” said the two-time Caf Women’s Coach of the Year.
South Africa will go into a preliminary training camp on Friday 10 June 2022.
The AWCON tournament is scheduled to take place in Morocco next month.
