Broos pleased with Bafana display despite loss

Bafana coach Hugo Broos says he is happy with this team’s performance despite a disappointing result against Morocco in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier opener in Rabat on Thursday night.

Broos’ charges broke the deadlock in the eighth minute thanks to Lyle Foster’s strike. The Atlas Lions found an equaliser 51 minutes into the match through Youssef En-Nesyri before Ayoub El-Kaabi scored the winning goal with three minutes left on the clock.

“I was not disappointed about the performance, we fought for it we played against a strong Moroccan team. That was good, we know what to do in September, it showed we can do it in September twice hopefully with two victories,” Broos told SAFA media.

“I thought we could win then after the goal we received I was happy with one point. If you get a second goal towards the end its so disappointing. We were waiting till the ball was out, the ball stayed in then we lose the ball, after that it was 2-1.”

Broos revealed that the reason why Sphephelo Sithole was not subbed off despite being taken out a couple of times off the pitch.

We asked him [Sphephelo Sithole] during half time, he said no problem, then on the moment we had a problem we cannot change immediately, we had to play with 10 then we received the goal,” he added.
Bafana will return to action when they face Liberia twice in September.
