Baroka’s Mbulu yet to decide future
Malawian striker Richard Mbulu has disclosed that his three-year contract with relegated Baroka FC would run its course at the end of this month.
However, the Flames hitman told FARPost that he is yet to decide whether to extend or not his contract with Bakgakga.
“My contract with Baroka expires on June 30 2022, and so far, there is no discussion regarding my future with Baroka. It is holiday time for me at the moment,” he said.
The Malawian said this amid online media reports that Golden Arrows were angling for his services.
Mbulu scored three league goals in 23 games for Baroka in the just-ended DStv Premiership season and had a knack for scoring against big teams such as Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, the Limpopo-based team could not beat the drop, and they have to plan for life in the second-tier GladAfrica Championship next season.
“I guess it was all about luck that I was able to always score against Sundowns,” the 2016 Malawi Golden Boot Awardee (19 goals) said when asked about his exploits in the just-ended season.
The forward signed for Baroka in 2019 from Mozambique’s Costa do Sol after starring for the Flames at the Cosafa Cup held in South Africa.
Away from football, Mbulu is a Malawi Defence Force soldier and was recognised last year after his goal in the 1-0 win over Uganda steered the Flames to the 2021 delayed AFCON finals in Cameroon.
