Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos remains confident that the national team will bounce back and qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations despite starting on the wrong footing.
Broos expressed his disappointment at the team’s failure to bring a result from Morocco last week in the in the opening qualifier of the campaign.
The Atlas Lions came from behind to beat Bafana 1-2 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
Lyle Foster had opened the scoresheet with well-struck low shot early in the game but were unable to hold onto to the lead.
“I am very disappointed that we did not win,” the Bafana Bafana mentor said. “When I see the first half, we started good, we scored a goal but from that moment it’s like there was a fear in the team not to lose what we had. There were maybe five or six chances that Morocco had.”
Bafana will have to wait until September to play their next qualifier after Zimbabwe were thrown out of the current campaign due to a FIFA ban. They would have played the Warriors on Wednesday.
It means their next fixture will be Liberia whom they face in back-to-back matches on September 19 at home, and on September 27 away.
The Lone Stars lost 2-0 to Morocco on Monday, allowing the North Africans to assume pole position in Group K with six points.
Both Bafana and Liberia, who played their home game in Casablanca, are on zero points. Nonetheless, the Belgian Bafana is confident that his charges will be in Cameroon next year for the AFCON finals.
