Pitso Mosimane’s achievements in North Africa have put him on the radar of several teams across the globe. With his rich resume, Mosimane should not be short of potential suitors across the continent and even in the Gulf region after parting ways with Al Ahly on Monday.

Middle East
Last month, there were reports that he was on the radar of the Qatari Stars League outfit Al Rayyan after they parted ways with former French ace Laurent Blanc following a string of poor results. Nicolás Córdova took over on an interim basis after replacing Blanc.
Interestingly, the club is yet to appoint a permanent replacement for the former PSG coach, with the 2022/23 league campaign set to start on 1 August 2022.
The three-time Caf Champions League winner, Mosimane, is no stranger to Qatari football, having ended his career as a footballer with Al-Sadd back in 1996 before going to make history in coaching.
According to an Egyptian journalist, the middle eastern country of Qatar is the most likely destination, although there will be interest from North Africa.
Tunisian giants
Esperance have never hidden their admiration of ‘Jingles’, with their technical director recently saying he is “a well-recognised coach in the world and deserves a place where people know the game of football”.
“That place is Esperance; we know there is a win, draw and lose in football. Yes, the priority is to win all the time, but we will never expect things to go on our way all the time.”
He was referencing Ahly fans who never take kindly to a loss. Even how Mosimane leaves the Cairo giants can be linked to them failing to win a third successive title.
Interestingly, the Tunisian side recently announced the dismissal of head coach Radhi Jaidi after 10 months in charge. Radhi led Esperance to 19 wins, nine draws, and seven defeats, but it wasn’t enough for him to keep his job.
Staying in Egypt?
In April last year, media reports in Egypt suggested that Mosimane had been offered an opportunity to coach the Egyptian national team. According to reports, the arrangement would have allowed him to keep his job at Al Ahly if the club had agreed. Of course, Ahly were unlikely to agree to such an arrangement.
At the time, Pharaohs coach Hossam El-Badry’s future hung in the balance. Eventually, Carlos Queiroz took over, but he did not last long after failing to win the Africa Cup of Nations.
Just days after his departure, Ehab Galal was announced as his successor, and his first game in charge came in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
A late scrappy win against Guinea in their opening group game before an embarrassing 2-0 defeat to Ethiopia recently marked an unimpressive start to Galal’s reign.
The disappointing result was met with much criticism in the media as former players and fans questioned his appointment as Egypt’s head coach.
The Egyptian FA has set up a task team to search for a foreign coach. With Miosimane free, he may be one of the coaches they consider.
