Kobola tips Bafana star to rediscover scoring touch at Pirates

Baroka FC coach Vincent Kobola has tipped Orlando Pirates-bound Evidence Makgopa to defy all odds and rediscover his scoring touch at the Buccaneers next season.

Pirates secured the 22-year-old’s signature in 2021, but he remained with Baroka on loan as part of the deal. The transfer of Gabadinho Mhango to AmaZulu has since paved way for the Bafana international to unite with his parent club for the first time.

“It’s a big step for Vincent [Makgopa], I wish him all the best at Pirates. He has all the qualities to succeed, I’ve seen it,” Kobola told FARPost.

“He should be aware that he is going to a big club, he should just continue working hard and deliver [goals], he is a striker after all. He should take his chances whenever given the opportunity, because in big teams, one mistake or bad game can simple ruin your career. Stakes are high, so are the demands.”

Kobola revealed his wish to see Makgopa settle in well with the Soweto giants.

“I hope he settles in well with his new teammates, he should be fully focused at his tasks and let everything happen in the field of play.”

Makgopa ends his stint at the Limpopo based club with 11 goals in 60 league matches. He had a disappointing season last term, only managing three goals in 31 outings.

Despite his poor form, Bafana coach Hugo Broos has continued to show trust in him. He has five caps and one goal to his name.
