JUST IN: Another court interdict to stop SAFA elections
Ousted SAFA Vhembe region leaders and staunch supporters of Ria Ledwaba have approached the Pretoria high court to, amongst other things, postpone the SAFA elections set for Saturday, 25 June.
Seasoned football administrator and former Secretary Eric Muneri, as well as former Chairperson of the Vhembe region George Khubayi, want SAFA to put on hold their congress until their disputes have been resolved.
The pair were voted out of office last month and replaced by Jabu Ndobe as the new Chairperson and Sam Matodzi as the secretary, an election which the pair has since disputed as unconstitutional.
Ndobe and Matodzi are believed to be backing Dr Danny Jordaan for a third term in office, but the region, under Muneri and Khubayi, was the first to nominate Ledwaba for the SAFA presidency.
In the court papers seen by FARPost, Muneri and Khubayi want to compel SAFA national office, who are the first respondent on the matter, to hold an arbitration on their dispute.
Pending the finalization of the proposed arbitration, they want SAFA to be stopped from hosting the elective congress at Sandton Convention Center on Saturday. They also want the court to set aside the Vhembe elections, which took place on 28 May 2022.
SAFA national, SAFA Limpopo and Vhembe are three respondents. The matter will be heard on Thursday, 23 June at 10:00.
