Highly rated defender leaves Polokwane City after refusing contract extension
Polokwane City have suffered a blow after their highly-rated defender Chembezi Denis refused to renew his contract.
The Malawian international confirmed to FARPost that he had decided against extending his two-year contract with the Rise and Shine.
“I have left Polokwane and I am on my way to Malawi for a break. Let me reserve my comment on my next career options,” he said.
Former Polokwane striker Esau Kanyenda said his compatriot was weighing other options.
“Dennis Chembezi has decided to leave Polokwane City FC. The player has already communicated to the club that he will not be extending his contract,” the ex-Jomo Cosmos striker tweeted.
Kanyenda facilitated the defender’s transfer from Mighty Wanderers in 2020 alongside that of other Malawians Mike Mkwate and Khuda Muyaba.
The 25-year-old defender featured for Malawi in every game at the delayed 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon between January and February this year.
Polokwane off-loaded 16 players last week.
