South African Football Association (SAFA) president Dr Danny Jordaan has described the upcoming SAFA elections as an important day for football in the country.
Jordaan will go against current vice-president Ria Ledwaba and Tshwane regional president Solly Mohlabeng at the Sandton Convention Center on Saturday, 25 June.
The 70-year-old is the favourite to win his third term in office with the majority of the 52 regions and NEC members backing him.
Speaking exclusively to FARPost, Jordaan said it was important for SAFA members to be allowed to vote for their preferred candidate.
“The 25th of June is a matter for SAFA leadership. One thing that we must never do is to deny those who are members the right to choose leaders,” he said.
“Every organization, it is up to the members to decide who the leader should be and we are not America that only votes for the President.
“We are voting for an entire National Executive Committee and it is the members that will come and vote for whoever must lead them,” he added.
“It’s a big election, it’s an important day for South African Football but it’s not America where we only vote for a President.”
