Former Baroka keeper gatecrashes Cosafa Cup squad for Zambia
Former Baroka FC keeper Cyril Chibwe’s move to join Lusaka side Zesco United has paid dividends.
Chibwe has earned a call-up to Zambia’s squad for the Cosafa Cup which South Africa will host next month.
Chances of the former Former Baroka FC keeper earning the Cosafa Cup call-up could have been slim if he were still in South Africa.
This is the case as usually, Zambia national team coaches selected only home-based players for the cup.
The case is no different with the latest call-up as Zambia’s Chipolopolo coach Aljosa Asanovic has named all home-based players in the 23-member squad for the Cosafa Cup scheduled for next month in South Africa.
Asanovic has roped in youngsters Enock Sakala junior, Jimmy Mukeya and Joshua Mutale in the squad.
The tournament will also act as a warm up for the July 24 African Nations Championship tie against Mozambique.
Zambia were seeded at the Cosafa Cup and will only start playing from the quarterfinal stage.
Chipolopolo will, in the last-eight stage, await the overall winner of Group A that comprises Botswana, Angola, Comoros, and Seychelles.
The Chipolopolo will start camp training on June 29 in Lusaka.
