Ex-Barca coach reveals what Frenkie de Jong said about joining Man United
Former Barcelona manager, Ronald Koeman, has revealed that midfielder, Frenkie de Jong told him that he does not want to leave the club.
Manchester United are edging close to signing the midfielder and want to get the deal wrapped up this week.
He is the first-choice signing for Erik ten Hag, who was his manager at Ajax before 2019. The only thing I know is that Frenkie wants to continue at Barca,” Koeman told Esport 3.
“A couple of days ago he told me he wanted to continue. What I don’t know is if Barca wants to sell him or needs money, because he is one of the few players for whom they can get a good amount,” the Dutch coach said, adding that de Jong is a great player for Barcelona.
Koeman, a former Everton manager, was sacked by Barcelona following a series of bad results at the Catalan side and was replaced by Xavi Hernandez.
