Rulani Mokwena shies away from Khune v Onyango debate
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has shied away from debate on who is better between the DStv Premiership kings’ goalkeeper Denis Onyango and his Kaizer Chiefs counterpart Itumeleng Khune.
Uganda’s NTV Sport Knights presenter had asked Mokwena to rate the two goalkeepers when the Sundowns mentor wound up his visit of Uganda where he shared knowledge with KCCA coaching personnel last week.
“I have Denis. I can only talk about my player,” Uganda’s Monitor newspaper quotes Mokwena saying.
The Sundowns mentor then praised the 2016 Caf Champions League title winning goalkeeper Onyango.
“Denis knows that being a good player, you need to be a good human. And that is what he is,” he is quoted saying.
Mokwena said there was no problem managing the 37-year-old Onyango who is in the same age group with him.
“He is an incredible player and brother. He gives me problems but he is such a fantastic person, on and off the pitch,” he said.
Onyango facilitated Mokwena’s knowledge exchange visit to KCCAF in Uganda.
Mokwena served under Pitso Mosimane when Sundowns won the CAF Champions League in 2016 before spending stints with Orlando Pirates and Chippa United then back to the Tshwane-based side.
