Al Ahly director joins queue of Pitso Mosimane’s praise singers in Egypt
Coach Pitso Mosimane continues to earn the kudos from Al Ahly’s rank-and-file weeks after his shock resignation.
Al Ahly director of football Sayed Abdelhafiz is the latest to join the growing queue of praise singers for the South African.
Sayed reflected on Mosimane’s stay at the Cairo side on Friday during the presentation of the team’s new head coach, Ricardo Soares.
“We have a great trust in Soares and his ability to accomplish great achievements for the club and we will provide him with all the needed support,” he told Al Ahly website.
“Finally, I would like to thank Pitso Mosimane and Michel Iannacone for their efforts with the team during their time. Also, I would like to thank Mohamed Sharaf and Omar Roshdy on their efforts with the first team during the previous period.”
Sayed said the club has full trust in Soares and that they will provide him full support to achieve success.
“Mahmoud El Khatib, the club’s president, held a meeting yesterday with the new coaching staff. During the meeting, we were keen to introduce the club’s rules and vision to them,” he said.
Mosimane has gone on a sabbatical after spending two years with Al Ahly, winning two CAF Champions League titles and two Fifa Club World Cup bronze medals.
However, a 2-0 loss to Wydad Casablanca in the 2022 Champions League final saw Mosimane come under heavy criticism from Al Ahly legends, he ended up throwing the towel due to pressure.
