Path clear for Yanga’s Eng. Hersi to become Africa’s youngest club president
Treble-winning Young Africans members and fans have given the thumbs up to Engineer [Eng.] Hersi Ally Said to take over as the club’s first president.
The 38-year-old has been at the forefront in driving the turnaround strategy that brought back the glory to Young Africans.
Yanga completed the domestic treble on Saturday when they won the Azam Federation Cup final after beating Coastal Union 4-1 after a penalty shootout. The game had ended 3-3 after extra time, with Yanga coming back from behind twice.
With the FA Cup done, elections take centre stage with Eng. Hersi set to run for the club’s presidential seat unopposed.
The elections are set for July 10th at Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC).
“I’m the only one running for the presidency, so by default, I will become the club’s first president,” Hersi told FARPost.
Recently, the club announced that Hersi had met all the criteria for contesting for the top post with the vice presidency and five Executive Committee positions to be contested.
Arafat Haji and Suma Mwaitenda will vie for the position to deputise Eng. Hersi.
