City newbie hails squad quality
Cape Town City new signing Marc van Heerden has praised the team’s squad quality revealing his excitement to join the Citizens after making a switch from cross town rivals Stellenbosch FC following a decision not to renew his expired contract.
City were impressive in the just ended DStv Premiership season finishing second. They are therefore, bolstering their squad as they will be participating in the CAF Champions League this coming season.
“We get to play with quality players, the intensity at training is something to grasp. I’ve seen a lot of quality throughout the whole team, youngsters that are coming through as well, some good quality there,” van Heerden told the club media.
“I hope I can add a little bit of value to the club all round. I hope that my role will not only be playing on the field, but also off the field with the genius and youngsters and try to mentor them.”
The 34-year-old further revealed that he is settling well at his new home.
“This is a start of a big relationship between myself and City. I’ve enjoyed my time so far, the first few weeks you have to adjust, but its been good, looking forward to the rest of the preseason. I’m very excited for my future at City,” he added.
