Al Ahly on when Percy Tau will return to action
South African forward Percy Tau will return to action after two weeks, his Egyptian side Al Ahly has announced on Sunday.
“Percy Tau, Al Ahly’s attacking midfielder, continued his recovery program on Sunday on the sidelines of team’s training session at El Tetsh Stadium. Ahmed Abu Abla, the team’s doctor, revealed that Tau is expected to fully recover from his injury within the next two weeks,” the Al Ahly website says.
Tau has hit the next phase of recovery training sessions alongside Mozambican Luis Miquissone and Yasser Ibrahim.
Al Ahly team doctor Abla said Miquissone is expected to complete his recovery programme for a knee injury within a week.
The ‘Club of the Century’ is in third place on the log table with three games in hand while lying six points behind leaders Zamalek.
With reports suggesting the Cairo giants are contemplating releasing the Bafana Bafana star, Tau would want to return to action before the curtain comes down on the Egyptian league.
The club is reportedly concerned that the South African international suffers chronic injuries.
The current injury is his sixth since joining the former African champions from English Premiership side
Brighton and Hove Albion in August last year. His injury troubles date back to his time in Belgium, where he spent over three months on the sidelines while on the books of Anderlecht.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns forward joined The Reds from the EPL side almost a year ago but only made his debut for the club in October 2021, having arrived in Egypt nursing an injury.
The 28-year-old has two years remaining on his contract with the club, and it remains to be seen whether the club will keep him after the departure of Mosimane, who signed him.
