Stellies, Chiefs set up epic Diski Shield final
Stellenbosch FC and Kaizer Chiefs beat their respective opponents in the semi finals of the Diski Shield on Saturday at the Giant Stadium to set up an epic final.
The Western Cape based outfit were the first to book a spot in the final, cruising to a one nil victory over Chippa United courtesy of Mervin Boji’s penalty in the 69th minute which proved to be enough.
In the second mouthwatering semi final tie, Chiefs emerged victorious scoring in each half, thanks to Mduduzi Shabalala’s first half penalty at the half hour mark and in form Wandile Duba’s second half wonder strike. The much anticipated match seemed to be a one-sided affair as Amakhosi dominated the entire match from start to the end.
“Full time score: (Shabalala pen. 30’, Duba 75′) Kaizer Chiefs 2 : 0 Mamelodi Sundowns #DiskiShield #Amakhosi4Life,” Chiefs tweeted.
Stellies, the reigning DStv Diski Challenge holders, are on the verge of writing history in the reserves league, becoming the first ever team to win both the league and the cup competition.
On the other hand, the Naturena based outfit are chasing their second Shield Cup after winning their first back in 2018 under the guidance of Arthur Zwane.
The DStv Diski Shield third edition final will be held at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale on July 23rd.
