Ethan Brooks makes Kaizer Chiefs admission

Bafana Bafana midfielder Ethan Brooks has made a Kaizer Chiefs admission after recently signing for KZN side AmaZulu.

Brooks made a surprise move to the Durban outfit from TS Galaxy after reported interest from clubs such as Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. The 21-year-old opened up on his move to Usuthu on the sidelines of the club’s training session at the ranch.

“It is never an easy choice for anyone. As you said, you read (the rumours), so I am sure you know who the other teams were after my signature, but it’s never an easy choice, you know. But it’s only right to think about it, and I am happy that I made the decision (to join AmaZulu),” Brooks told FARPost.

The former TS Galaxy midfielder has also confirmed that Chiefs were one of the clubs that were after his services. In fact, the Soweto giants, according to Brooks, formally approached the Tim Sukazi-owned Galaxy. However, the soft-spoken star was not willing to disclose what came out of Chiefs’ approach.

“Yes, they were (interested). Yes, there was (a formal approach), and yeah, I don’t want to talk too much about it.”

He went on to explain why he settled for Usuthu despite all the interest. “Durban is basically a second home for me. My mother is from Durban, so I used to visit Durban, but as I said, AmaZulu has a lot of history, so playing for a club like this, you want to do your best, and that’s what I hope to do when I get my chance.”

Brooks played 42 matches in all competitions during his three seasons at Galaxy. He was part of the Bafana Bafana COSAFA Cup winning squad in Port Elizabeth in 2021.

Meanwhile, the DStv Premiership side AmaZulu have completed their 10-day pre-season training camp in Polokwane and headed to KwaZulu-Natal.

Usuthu opted to base their camp at the Ranch Hotel in Limpopo as they prepare for the 2022/23 season. Brooks joined his new teammates after spending time with the Bafana Bafana squad at the recently concluded COSAFA Cup.

On Saturday, they play Zululand District XI in the Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup while Sundowns take on Richards Bay.
