What Al Ahly said about Pitso Mosimane on his 58th birthday
Al Ahly management has released a statement hailing their former celebrated coach Pitso Mosimane as one of the greatest in the Egyptian club’s history.
The Reds have released the statement on Tuesday while wishing the South African mentor a happy 58th birthday.
“Today is Pitso Mosimane’s birthday. One of the greatest coaches in the history of Al-Ahly, a period that was short but full of achievements and championships…happy birthday, South African magician,” the club tweeted.
Egyptian publication KingFut has also joined the bandwagon of those wishing Mosimane well by listing down all silverware he won in Cairo.
The record CAF Champions League kings still hold the South African in high esteem over a month after he resigned due to personal reasons, saying he needed to take a breather from the ever-demanding job of managing the continent’s football powerhouse.
Mosimane left South Africa DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns in 2020 to join Al Ahly, and he went on to win two CAF Champions League titles in three attempts.
The coach, who also won two Fifa Club World Cup bronze medals, resigned shortly after Al Ahly had lost 2-0 in a CAF Champions League final to Wydad Athletic weeks ago.
Al Ahly are now being managed by Portuguese coach Ricardo Soares who has managed three wins, two defeats and one draw since taking charge of the Cairo side.
Some fans have since been regretting the exit of Mosimane, who had come under growing criticism from a section of Al Ahly legends who accused the South African over his playing style and approach to games, saying he was making the Club of the Century look inferior when it was in fact enormous.
However, Mosimane has been diplomatic in view of the regrets of some of the fans who feel they did not support the coach when he was at the team’s helm. The former Bafana Bafana coach says he was not dismissed but opted to walk out, urging the supporters to render the new coach all the support.
Mosimane is now taking a breather back home in South Africa amid reports linking him to several coaching jobs in South Africa and abroad.
