Former Orlando Pirates coach lands job in Lesotho

Former Orlando Pirates reserve team coach Moeketsi Abram Mangoya has been unveiled as the head coach for Bantu FC in Lesotho’s Vodacom Premier League.

Bantu confirmed in a statement posted on their Facebook page that Mangoya had joined the team alongside his assistant Victor Tlholo, who was formerly part of Sekhukhune United coaching panel.

“Today, we unveiled our new head coach from South Africa, Mr Moeketsi Abram Mangoya, together with his assistant Mr Victor Tlholo, whom they worked together with at Sekhukhune United,” the statement reads in part.

“The club shall further announce the second locally-based assistant coach, together with the goalkeeper’s coach in the next days.”

Mangoya is a CAF A-Licence holder and, apart from his time with Pirates reserve, worked as an assistant coach under Eric Tinkler and then Rhulani Mokwena, both at Chippa United.

He also served in a similar role under coach MacDonald Makhubedu at TS Sporting in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Bantu spokesperson Pule Mosoatsi has since told the press in Lesotho that the duo had signed a two-year contract ahead of the kick-off of the 2022/23 season in which they have been challenged to win the league title and all available silverware in Lesotho.

“The new coach was given the freedom to bring along his own assistant coach, if that is what will see him bring us the results expected of the team of our status and class, so he will be working with coach Tlholo,” Mosoatsi is quoted saying.

Mangoya and Tlholo have followed the footsteps of compatriot James Madidilane who led Bantu to the 2017 and 2018 Premier League championships before leaving the following season.

Another South African Thabo Tsutsulupa replaced Madidilane at Bantu at the start of the 2022 soon, but he was released after a few weeks due to poor results, with compatriot Teboho Tšiu coming in to replace him.

However, the fast-revolving door at Bantu soon ejected Tšiu last month after he reportedly failed to lead the team to the league’s second-place as mandated by management.

Bantu are Lesotho’s oldest professional team founded in 1927 and are regarded as the most supported team whose home venues are Bantu Stadium and Leshoboro Seeiso Sports Complex.
