Pitso Mosimane’s agency says ‘something is loading’
Coach Pitso Mosimane’s agency has dropped a big cryptic hint that ‘something is loading’ for the celebrated former Al Ahly mentor and his backroom team, amid reports that he is on the radar of Iraq FA for the country’s vacant national football team coaching job.
“Something is loading,” MTSports tweeted on Thursday morning with a picture of Mosimane posing alongside his backroom team of performance analysts and conditioning coaches.
According to Iraq media, Mosimane, Portuguese mentor Antonio Conceicao, who coached the Cameroon national team, and ex-France national team Bernard Cosoni are the front runners for the job.
Mosimane resigned from the Al Ahly coaching job last month soon after surrendering the CAF Champions League title to Wydad Casablanca following a 2-0 loss in the final played in Morocco.
He is now back home conducting some coaching clinics through his foundation to empower the next generation of coaches.
The former Bafana Bafana mentor resigned weeks after admitting that the job at Al Ahly was too demanding. He had at times battled with high blood pressure.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor has never been short of suitors, especially in the Gulf Region and North Africa.
Mosimane’s replacement at Al Ahly, Portuguese Ricardo Soares, has had a bumpy start leading to calls for the South African’s comeback. He, however, insists he was not fired at Al Ahly but opted to walk out despite management’s call that he should stay on the job.
Interestingly, Al Ahly legends who were quick to slam Mosimane have so far been quiet on the performance of Soares, whose team lost 2-1 to Zamalek in the Egyptian Cup final days after suffering a 2-0 league match loss to Pyramids.
Al Ahly have since bounced back to register back-to-back league wins but remains third on the log table, six points behind leaders Zamalek with one game in hand.
Mosimane’s agency had, towards the last days of his reign in Egypt, complained that their client was being subjected to unfair criticism by some Al Ahly legends despite his evident success during his two years there.
The former SuperSport United trainer bagged two out of three CAF Champions League titles he attempted, in addition to domestic silverware in Egypt and FIFA Club World Cup bronze medals.
