Ex-Chiefs player trying luck at Leopards
A former Kaizer Chiefs winger is trying his luck at Black Leopards as the club looks to beef up their squad ahead of the 2022/23 Motsepe Foundation Championship season.
Edmore Chirambadare’s former teammate has informed FARPost that the attacker has been at Black Leopards since Thursday and featured in a practice match against Baroka on Saturday.
“They played a 2-2 draw against Baroka in a practice match, and he played very well. It looks like they may sign him,” the source said. Lidoda Duvha coach Joel Masutha is familiar with the player after working with him briefly last season at Pretoria Callies.
The 30-year-old spent the last season at the Pretoria side and could don Black Leopards colours this season. He has also played for Steenberg United, Royal AM and Maccabi in South Africa.
The left-footed Chirambadare rose to prominence when he joined Chiefs in 2016; he struggled to settle in at Naturena and was forced out of the club two years later.
Since then, he has not recaptured the form that enticed Amakhosi to sign him from Bulawayo side Chicken Inn. A move to Leopards, who are pushing for a return to the top flight, could be an opportunity to relaunch his career.
Leopards have already signed a Namibian forward, Bethuel Muzeu, on a one-year deal. The club scouted him at the recently-held COSAFA Cup tournament.
His signing will come in handy as he joins at a time Leopards star Tiklas Thutlwa is nursing an injury. The 23-year-old scored 16 goals to help them survive relegation. His impressive goal haul saw him walk away with the GladAfrica Championship top goal scorer award.
Despite interest from several teams, the Limpopo side kept Thutlwa for the new season. However, they could not retain the services of experienced defender Isaac Masia, whom Maritzburg United recently unveiled.
