Chiefs trio to miss Royal AM clash

Kaizer Chiefs will open their 2022/23 DStv Premiership campaign against Royal AM without the services of three key players.

Sfiso Hlanti and Sibusiso Mabiliso are nursing their respective injuries while Phathutshedzo Nange is suspended after picking a fourth yellow card at the end of last season.

Hlanti missed the better part of last season after rupturing his Achilles tendon. However, he is on his way to full recovery while Mabiliso, who struggled for game time since arriving from AmaZulu last year sustained an injury in training.

“We have Nange who is out with suspension and won’t be available for this game, Hlanti is still not 100% as we know he’s coming from a long lay off and Mabiliso has a thigh problem so those are the only players who won’t be available,” Zwane told the media at Naturena on Thursday.

The Glamour Boys are eager to end the seven-year trophy drought after welcoming Zitha Kwinika, Dillon Solomons, Ashley Du Preez, George Matlou, Yusuf Maart, Siyethemba Sithebe, and Kamohelo Mahlatsi, who are tipped to bring back the glory days.

Chiefs endured a challenging 2020/21 season, which saw them claim only 13 wins, eight draws, and suffer defeat in nine outings to finish in fifth spot, missing out on the opportunity to participate in CAF competitions in the upcoming season.

Amakhosi will be looking to end their poor form against Royal AM when two clubs lock horns on Saturday at Chatsworth Stadium, kickoff is at 18:00.
