Yanga coach Nasredine Nabi has decided on his future, ending speculation that he could be on his way to a North African club.
The Tunisian led Yanga to a treble last season, and following the expiry of his contract at the end of the season, he had been linked with a move to FAR Rabat of Morocco.
Former Simba coach Sven Vandenbroeck vacated his position as FAR Rabat mentor, taking over at Saudi Arabia club Abba last month. Nabi had been linked to the club to replace the 42-year-old Belgian.
However, the Jangwani giants ended any possibility of their coach leaving, announcing that he had committed to staying with the club. Yanga announced the development by posting a video showing Nabi signing the new contract alongside the club’s new president Engineer Hersi Said Ally.
The Dar es Salaam giants waited four years to lift the Tanzanian Premier League title, dominating their rivals for years. Nabi was the man to guide them to a memorable season as they won the Charity Cup, Premier League and the Azam Cup.
The capture of their 28th title was done in style as they never tasted defeat on their way to lifting it. Their impressive tally consisted of 22 wins and eight draws. They scored 49 goals, only conceding eight.
They are set to face Vipers SC from Uganda this weekend in a friendly match as part of the celebration of Yanga Day at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Nasredine Nabi will lead them to the CAF Champions League this season as they look to turn their domestic dominance to the continental stage.
Meanwhile, the future of assistant coach Cedric Kaze remains uncertain as the club is yet to announce his fate. The Burundian national’s contract also expired in June and is yet to be renewed.
The club’s CEO Senzo Mbatha has left the club following the expiry of his contract.
