Zesco gives update on ex-Pirates striker
Zesco United have given an update on ex-Orlando Pirates striker Austin Muwowo who has been training with the nine-time Zambian champions over the last few weeks.
Muwowo is a free agent since the expiry of his contract with Pirates after joining them in 2019 from Zambian giants Nkana.
The Zambian striker spent his last days at Pirates on loan at Swallows. Zesco spokesperson Desmond Katongo told FARPost that the 2019 Zambian Footballer of the Year is still training with them in Ndola after featuring in two pre-season friendly matches last weekend in Lusaka.
“We had a good four-club tournament in Lusaka, and this gave us an opportunity to assess some of the seven players we have recruited during this transfer window,” Katongo said.
“And we also had an opportunity to look at some of the players still looking for clubs in the forthcoming football season.
“One of them is Austin Muwowo, a brilliant and talented young man who spent some time in South Africa with Orlando Pirates.
“I would like to confirm that Zesco United are interested in trying to bring him on board.
“At the moment, we are still trying to reach an agreement with his representative.
“But I can confirm that Austin is still with us here in Ndola and that the club is interested in bringing him on board, and we hope that this piece of business could be concluded probably this week or probably
early next week.”
Muwowo is quite familiar with Zesco after spending his last season in
Zambia on loan with their Ndola rivals Forest Rangers before moving to
the PSL.
The 25-year-old had a disappointing spell with Bucs following a lack of game time, and he will be looking to revive his career and get it back on track. Before his PSL switch, he was Nkana’s trump card and there were a lot of expectations.
