Yanga celebrations sweep Pitso Mosimane off his feet
Coach Pitso Mosimane has described the football atmosphere at Yanga SC in Tanzania as the best he has ever seen in Africa, saying it one for the books.
He made the remarks after participating in Yanga’s Citizen’s Week celebrations that included coaching clinics and a friendly between the Dar es Salaam giants and eventual 2-0 winners SC Vipers in the East African nation over the weekend.
“My trip to @yangasc1935 for their #wikiyamwananchi was definitely one for the books. I will never forget this week and the football culture in Tanzania has inspired me so much!,” Mosimane tweeted.
Yanga President Hersi Said Ally is said to have invited the former Al Ahly coach to witness the celebration for the Dar es Salaam-based club which won a treble in the just-ended season.
“I was at the stadium [in Egypt] every day, with matches played every three days and I was traveling a lot. Now, I have decided to rest and I am using my break to participate with Young Africans People’s Week,” Yanga quoted Mosimane saying via twitter.
“I have been eager to see and participate in the People’s Week and I would like to congratulate Young Africans SC and President Hersi Said for participating in social events and promoting youth football. I would also like to congratulate the coach and his technical bench for winning three cups.”
The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor later took to social media to express his gratitude to Yanga management for inviting him.
“#wikiyamwananchi was definitely one for the books. I will never forget this week and the football culture in Tanzania has inspired me so much,” Mosimane said, saying he was humbled how Yanga’s winger Bernard Morrison welcomed him.
“…the boy really humbled me first at their training session and next day, he gave me a goose bumps shout out in a 50k packed stadium full of green and yellow Mwananchi supporters! #wikiyamwananchi2022 ,what a football party, the best I have ever seen in Africa!”
The former SuperSport mentor has gone on a coaching sabbatical and is using that time to conduct coaching clinics.
Mosimane has been jobless since June 2022 when he parted ways with Ahly, saying he needed time off after 21 hectic months that produced two CAF Champions League trophies and another double of bronze medals for the Club World Cup.
