Marumo reveal why they want Gallant fight for silverware
Marumo Gallants have revealed that they are motivated to win some silverware this 2022/23 DStv Premiership season to attract sponsors.
Gallants’ media and club liaison manager, Rufus Matsena, said this in response to FARPost’s question on the team’s target in terms of winning trophies for this campaign.
“…as a team, we would love to have some silverware in our cabinet. It is just that we were unfortunate the Sundowns one eluded us, but the intention is to have more silverware because, remember, the more silverware you have, the more sponsors you have,” he said.
The club’s spokesperson tracked down Gallants’ performance since their promotion to the top-flight league, saying they were on an upward trajectory.
“…in the first season, we started off on a very rough pace [and it was] same as the second season, but fortunately, in our first season, we ended up as number 12 and in the second season position eight,” he said.
Matsena said the target this season was to better last campaign’s eight-place league finish.
“To us, it is an improvement. We are hoping that we can only get better. We will take it one day at a time. We are hoping that with the support of guys like you and ordinary spectators, that can be achievable,” he said.
Rufus said all teams start on an equal season every season, and it was the ones with more desire and dedication that end up grabbing the championship.
“Every team, when you start a season, it is either you are number one or number zero when its starts. So far, we are not number one or number…,” Matsena said over the weekend.
Gallants are still hunting for their first win of the season after opening this chapter with a goalless draw against Stellebosch over the weekend and again 0-0 against newcomers Richards Bay on Tuesday.
Gallants return to the battlefront on Saturday when they host Golden Arrows.
