What Sekhukhune anticipates in Limpopo

Sekhukhune United coach Kaitano Tembo has spelt out what they anticipate in Limpopo, insisting that the club would need to do more than just play in Polokwane to gather support from locals.

Babina Noko will officially start their journey at their new home of Peter Mokaba Stadium when they host Golden Arrows in a DStv Premiership clash on Wednesday evening.

The club has relocated from Johannesburg, where they played for the past two seasons. The club originated from the Sekhukhune region, and they have always made their intentions clear that they will host their matches in Limpopo, provided a suitable facility exists.

Speaking ahead of the all-important encounter, Tembo says a lot still needs to be done to attract people to their matches. “It will need a lot of work in terms of us being here. We need to belong, so for us to belong, we need to spend a lot of time here,” he said.

“Visibility is very important because a lot of people here know us as a Johannesburg team, so although we are called Sekhukhune United. So, I think there is still a lot of work that needs to be done, and I think our marketing team will handle that.

“But also, the good thing is that we are coming here to play in a very good stadium which will allow us to play good football. Good entertaining football and that will also attract the fans because that is very important, and I think we are happy to be here,” added Tembo.

The 52-year-old also adds that the club intends to find themselves playing in Limpopo and based here.

“I think that’s the long-term vision of the club. The club is called Sekhukhune United and should be based in Limpopo. So, all our 15 home games are being played here. In terms of planning, if everything goes right, probably long term, we will be able to move to Polokwane.”
