Abubeker Nassir says Sundowns’ goal ‘first of many’ to come

Ethiopian striker Abubeker Nassir has spoken out after scoring his first goal for Mamelodi Sundowns in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs, saying it is the ‘first of many’ to come.

Nassir danced his way and turned his markers inside out before firing the ball into the net to announce his arrival to Sundowns in front of a packed Loftus Stadium.

It was the 22-year-old’s first goal in two games after having made his debut midweek during the 1-0 loss to TS Galaxy months after completing his transfer from Ethiopia Coffee FC.

After the game, the spiky-haired forward took to social media to thank his team-mate for helping him hit the ground running while promising to score more goals.

“First of many. Sundowns Dumela…The goal account in PSL already opened! Thanks for all my teammates and fans! Alhamdulillah! The sky is the limit!… “3 points. My first Sundowns Goal. Congratulations to Sundowns fans who support me around the world,” he tweeted.

The striker is also quoted as having commented via a radio station in Ethiopia on how his team-mates reacted to his first goal with the Tshwane giants.

“After the match my teammates said: ‘It is a holiday in Ethiopia today’. They were really excited with my goal. I scored my first goal for Sundowns in a difficult match (v Chiefs).”

The Ethiopian international has also written a small piece of history with his goal for the DStv Premiership champions, according to @ OptaJabu.

“Abubeker Nassir’s goal is the first league goal for Sundowns by a player from Ethiopia, the 35th different nationality to score for them in the PSL. Global,” he tweeted.

Nassir received his international transfer certificate earlier this week to complete his long-awaited transfer from Coffee FC.

The talented frontman made a name for himself since joining Coffee in July 2019 with a string of important goals.

The lethal striker netted 36 goals in 47 Premier League appearances in the last two campaigns for Coffee.

He was voted last season’s Most Valuable Player and top scorer in the Ethiopian Premier League.
