Amazulu’s Truter wants discarded Chiefs defender Mabiliso
AmaZulu FC coach Brandon Truter has made it clear he wants Sibusiso Mabiliso with talks ongoing to bring the former youth international back to the club.
Kaizer Chiefs showed Mabiliso the exit door after a demanding spell with them. The 23-year-old joined Amakhosi before the beginning of last season after an awe-inspiring time with Usuthu, and his move didn’t sit well with the former coach Benni McCarthy.
The newly appointed Manchester United assistant coach felt the defender needed more time in Durban before making any move. True to his word, during his time at Naturena, he made six appearances under coach Stuart Baxter.
When coach Arthur Zwane took over, there was a hope that he would start getting game time as the club was in the rebuilding phase, but unfortunately, it was not the case for the former Platinum Stars defender.
Now with a short spell at Chiefs over, what next for the Rustenburg-born star?
On Saturday evening, after Usuthu recorded their second victory in three games, coach Truter responded to the question of whether he is open to bringing back Mabiliso, and his response was clear that a player of his talent would add value to the team if he were to be re-signed.
“He is a quality player, and every coach would like to have a quality player in his team. Right now, we have good left-backs in Mxolisi Kunene and Riaan Hanamub as well, adding Mabiliso brings quality and competition among the team,” Truter told the media.
“I think any championship-winning team [wants to] have that kind of competition, be it at Mamelodi Sundowns or Europe, so it goes well with the squad, so if it happens, it will happen, and it will help the team.”
Mabiliso has reportedly told his former teammates at the Durban outfit that he wants to return. Interestingly, Truter and Mabiliso share the same agent.
