Zim teenage prodigy targeting golden boot for Leicester City

Zimbabwean teenage striker Tawanda Jethro Masvanhise is buzzing in scoring form for Leicester City Under 21s and has set sights on winning the golden boot in England’s Premier League 2.

The exciting forward scored his second goal of the season for Leicester City’s Under 21 side, albeit in a losing cause to the defending champions, Manchester City Under 21s.

His first-half goal was cancelled out by goals netted by Carlos Borges, Dire Mebude, and Zambian starlet Jadel Katongo as the Manchester side asserted their dominance to collect maximum points.

Maswanhise came off the mark this season when he got his first goal and assist when they beat Tottenham Hotspur Under 21s on an opening day.

And he is leaving no stone unturned to be a regular feature on the scoresheet for the young Foxes.

“I am happy that I got the goal but overall, as a team, we couldn’t get the points. I worked hard, but it wasn’t enough.

“Right now, I’m on a scoring form, and I’m hoping to get it going to be the top scorer. In every game that I play, my mind is thinking that I’m going to score, so I will be high in confidence,” Masvanhise told the club website.

The 19-year-old was previously a prominent feature in the club’s Under 23 side in the former Premier League 2 before the age limit review at the end of last season.

At the age of 18, he was already commanding a first-team place in the Under 23 side. Even Leicester City first-team coach Brandon Rodgers was impressed by the speedy attacker and has often invited him to join the senior men in pre-season friendlies.

Meanwhile, the left winger is yet to play for the Zimbabwe national team, although he has already pledged his allegiance to represent the Southern African nation.
