Al Ahly sideline Percy Tau from back-to-back games
Al Ahly coach Ricardo Soares has sidelined South African forward Percy Tau from the Egyptian team’s match-day squads in back-to-back games, further raising doubts on his future with the Reds.
Soares has dropped the Bafana Bafana striker from the 21-member squad to face Eastern Company SC in Wednesday’s evening Egyptian Premier League game.
The former Brighton and Hove Albion player was also conspicuously missing from the playing squad over the weekend when Al Ahly faced Misr Le in an Egyptian Cup match against.
Al Ahly won the game 1-0 to reach the quarterfinal of the cup which presents Soares a rare opportunity to win some silverware this season otherwise as their league title prospects appear dim every day.
Interestingly, Mozambican winger Luis Miquissone, whose future at the club has been in doubt, has now been playing regularly.
Reports emerged recently that Al Ahly had placed Tau and Miquissone alongside four other players on the transfer-list.
However, the Egyptian side has not commented on such reports, but Soares and the club’s management resolved to be featuring reserve team players in the remaining league games due to exhaustion of regulars who are becoming prone to injuries.
Al Ahly are 10 points behind leaders Zamalek albeit with a game in hand.
The Cairo rivals Zamalek have four games to the finish line and need one more win to reach the maximum tally of points for Al Ahly who can only go as far as 75 points assuming they win all their remaining five games.
Soares replaced coach Pitso Mosimane in June when the South African had made a surprise decision to throw in the towel amid growing criticism over the team’s performance.
The former Bafana Bafana mentor had repeatedly complained that his team was struggling due to fixtures congestion and Soares is also complaining of the similar problems.
