Vardy pens new deal with Leicester amid Man Utd links

Leicester City has granted their veteran frontman Jamie Vardy a contact extention amid Manchester United links.

City’s all-time top Premier League goalscorer penned a new two-year deal, which will see him stay at the club until 2024.

This comes after the 35-year-old was recently linked with a move to Old Trafford, with the Red Devils yet to recruit an attacker to slot into their front three.

The new deal will see Vardy taking his association with the Foxes into a second decade.

He played a significant role in helping the side to win the Premier League in the 2015/16 campaign and FA Cup in the 2020/21 season since joining them from Fleetwood back in 2012.

The highly-experienced goal poacher also won the Premier League Golden Boot in 2019/20 season. Overall, he has scored 153 goals in 335 league appearances.

“I’m obviously over the moon. Once I heard it was something the club was looking at, there was only one thing that was going to happen, and I was going to sign it. The decision was easy,” Vardy told LCFC TV.

“I’ve been here long enough now that I feel like part of the furniture. I think you can see with the way we’re trying to play, the way the club’s wanting to go, that it’s going to be onwards and upwards.

“To carry on being involved with that, I was over the moon. Now it’s all about this season and finishing as high as we can.

“My legs are still feeling great so I’ll carry that on helping the club as much as I can, whether that’s scoring or assisting, that’s what I’m here to do.”
