AmaZulu instilling winning mentality in players

AmaZulu’s flying start to the DStv Premiership might be as a result of a winning mentality which coach Brandon Truter and his coaching panel have been instilling in the players.

Usuthu spokesperson Phumlani Dube said this when asked about the secret behind their resurgence that has seen them go top of the log table.

“It’s really that we have instilled a winning mentality in our players. We motivate and encourage them before and after every game,” he tells FARPost.

“We also speak to them so that they can see themselves as victors. We are very happy and proud of everyone’s contribution because football is a team sport.”

Usuthu beat Swallows 3-2 on Friday to make it three wins on the spin and one draw since the season started.

AmaZulu started the season with a draw against TS Galaxy before beating Cape Town City, SuperSport United then Swallows.

Truter said he wanted to make Moses Mabhida Stadium a fortress which no opposition would fancy coming to face AmaZulu.

Key to AmaZulu’s revival has been the scoring form of Malawian Gabadinho Mhango who has now scored in three straight matches.

The former Swallows mentor said he was happy that most of his strikers are finding the back of the net, adding that Gabadinho’s goal was classic.

“The goal that Gabadinho scored is a cracker. It could be the contender for the Goal of the Season already,” he said.

“So, all the [front] three [including Bongi Ntuli and Augustine Kwam] have scored in two games and that augurs well with us…then you have Lehlohonolo Majoro and Dumisani Zuma they also need to get a run out as well.”

Gabadinho and Ntuli scored when Usuthu saw off SuperSport in that home match.

The Malawian also found the target in the games against Swallows and Cape Town City to emerge as among the Golden Boot Award early pacesetter.

Truter said he needed to ensure that AmaZulu start games on the front foot and make Moses Mabhida Stadium a no-go zone for opponents.
