Cape Town City’s CAF opponents hire French coach

Congolese side AS Otoho D’Oyo have hired a French coach ahead of their CAF Champions League preliminary round games against Cape Town City.

AS Otohô confirmed through a statement that they have hired Frenchman Julien Mette to replace Congolese Cedric Nanitelamio.

“Julien Mette is engaged with AS Otohô. Former general manager, the French technician returns home this time as the first team coach,” the statement reads.

“The Board of Directors formalises the end of the collaboration between Mr Cédric Nanitelamio, deputy coach and the Otoh int Sports Association. The club management thanks him for the services rendered and wishes him good luck for the future.”

Nanitelamio has served the Congolese champions for two years and won the league title last season to pave the way for participation in the continental league.

The former coach has since issued a statement bidding farewell to the Congolese team.

“Many thanks to the general president of the club, Mr Raoul Ominga, to my very dear big brother and president Olangue Mo, to President Tinio, to the well-wishers for giving me the opportunity to work in a team as good as the AS Otohô for two years. This structure has allowed me to gain a great professional experience. I thank the players and technical staff for the frank collaboration. Thank you once again, ” Nanitelamio said.

Meanwhile, AS Otohô announced they have parted ways with one of their experienced players, Rhyce Ondon.

The team from Congo did not explain the reasons for Ondon’s departure but wished him well.

Otoho are surely preparing for the first-round games against City scheduled to take place in South Africa on the weekend of September 9, then away on the weekend of 16, 2022.

This will be followed by the second-round matches scheduled for the weekend of October 7 at home and October 14 in the reverse fixture. 

The overall winner between Cape Town City v D’Oyo will date either Black Bulls of Mozambique or Petro Atletico from Angola.
