Security fears force Man Utd cancel pre-match meeting

Man United has cancelled its pre-match meeting at The Lowry Hotel in Salford due to security fears ahead of their much-anticipated Premier League clash against Liverpool tonight.

United will welcome the Reds at Old Trafford with the kick-off scheduled for 21:00 South African time.

According to Manchester Evening News, Erik ten Hag’s side called off their planned pre-match meeting with the backdrop of another supporter-led protest against the Glazer family’s ownership of the club.

It has been reported that a small number of fans are already outside the hotel in preparation for the protest.

This will not be for the first time something of this nature occurs. In May 2021, United had to play their home game against Liverpool behind closed doors following a protest against the Glazers after a foiled European Super League plan.

In a pre-match interview last Friday, Jurgen Klopp stated that his side should be granted the three points if today’s showdown does not go ahead.

“We have nothing to do with the situation and if the supporters want the game not happening, then we cannot just rearrange the game again and fit it in somewhere in an incredibly busy season,” said the German mentor.

“People tell us we are fine, we go there and play the game hopefully and go home. But in a situation like this, always the other team should get the points because they have nothing to do with it and they have prepared for it.”

The side crashed to a second successive defeat in an embarrassing 4-0 loss at Brentford a week ago and will be hoping to bounce back stronger and register their first win of the season.

As things stand, United are placed 18th on the log standings with nothing to show off, whereas Liverpool who drew all of their two opening fixtures are languishing 15th on the table with two points.
