PSL fine City as Pirates lose appeal

Premier Soccer League [PSL] prosecutor Zola Majavu has fined Cape Town City with Orlando Pirates losing the Tim Sukazi appeal.

The league gave an update on the two Disciplinary hearing matters that sat on Monday.

Cape Town City were summoned to appear before the DC after being charged for failure to seek approval from the PSL executive committee prior to concluding their deal with their title sponsors FNB.

They appeared on Monday evening and pleaded not guilty. However, after arguments, they were convicted.

“They were further sanctioned a monetary amount of R 50 000, half of which is suspended for a period of 24 months on condition that during the period of suspension they are not found guilty of the same offence,” revealed Majavu in a press release on Monday evening.

“They were also directed to pay the cost of the DC.”

The second case involved an appeal by Orlando Pirates following the guilty verdict by the PSL for manhandling TS Galaxy president Tim Sukazi and refusing him entry to the Orlando Stadium.

The PSL found Pirates guilty of unreasonably denying Sukazi entrance into the stadium. A heated brawl, which was captured on video, made rounds on social media.

“The matter was argued before the SAFA appeal board and judgement was reserved. Earlier this evening that judgement was delivered and the appeal by Orlando Pirates was dismissed.

“They were sanctioned a monetary fine of R 100 000 which is wholly suspended for a period of 12 months, on condition that during the period of suspension they are not found guilty of the same offence.

“They were also directed to forfeit the appeal fee and further directed to send a written apology to the league in which they apologise for the incident, namely the manhandling of Mr Tim Sukazi by their security personnel.

“They are further directed to pay the cost of that sitting,” said Majavu.
