Sekhukhune’s Motsepe aiming for victory against Swallows

Sekhukhune United defender Sello Motsepe is confident of claiming victory against Swallows after holding defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns to a 1-1 draw.

Babina Noko have their tails high after giving a good account of themselves to deny Sundowns a victory on Saturday at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The Kaitano Tembo-coached team had an inconsistent start to the new season which saw them win one match in four games played.

The Limpopo-based side opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Maritzburg United before claiming a slender win against Golden Arrows who are yet to taste victory this season. It was followed by a 1-0 defeat against PSL newbies Richards Bay at King Zwelithini Stadium.

On the other side, the Dobsonville-based outfit had a slow start to the new campaign with head coach Dylan Kerr yet to sit on the bench because of work permit delays.

“Home Affairs is playing silly games. How is the permit approved on the system but can’t be printed, we were told on Monday last week that it was approved. He remains unavailable for now, unless a miracle happens,” said Swallows chairman David Mogashoa.

The 28-year-old centre-back, who played well against Sundowns, has called on his teammates to respect the Birds but not to fear them in order to collect all the three points.

“Playing against Swallows, they have been doing so well and they are a good team. We respect them, we have a game plan on how we are going to go with the game.

“I just feel like we need to keep working hard and approach the game with the same mentality we had against Sundowns, which is not to fear but to go there with a mentality of getting maximum points,” said the former Highlands Park star.

Motsepe made 21 appearances for the Simon Malatjie-owned team in the 2021/22 season and he has already featured in all their four clashes in the current campaign.

In the off-season, the 2020/21 Motsepe Foundation Championship winners made their intentions clear when they signed a number of high profile players such as Linda Mntambo, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Denwin Farmer, Wonderboy Makhubu, Badra Ali Sangare, Victor Letsoalo, Tashreeq Morris, Katlego Mkhabela, Thamsanqa Masiya, Lesego Sebetlela, Tresor Yamba, Abednego Mosiatlhaga, Ellias Mokwana, Tshepo Mokhabi.
