Brandon Truter: Form doesn’t count in derbies

AmaZulu coach Brandon Truter expects a fast-paced clash against Golden Arrows and doesn’t think form will count in the Durban derby.

Under the former Swallows mentor, Truter, AmaZulu are currently unbeaten, while their crosstown rivals are yet to win a single match in the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.

The two have a date at the Princess Magogo Stadium in what promises to be an exciting match.

AmaZulu host Abafana Bes’thende in high spirits as they are currently on top of the league ahead of the clash. They have beaten SuperSport United, Cape Town City and Swallows FC and drew against TS Galaxy in the opening clash.

On the other hand, Arrows are yet to win a single match after losing to Richards Bay and Sekhukhune and drawing against Marumo Gallants and TS Galaxy.

Truter is of the view that form will not mean anything when the two sides meet.

“Derbies are always tough, and the previous form goes out of the window. He recalls how the same fixture panned out last season.

“It’s all about the pride, and last season was proof of that. We were on the roll, and Arrows came and beat us.

“It’s going to be very tough and physical for both teams. I’m liking the fighting spirit of the team. It has shown in all our games. We just need to avoid conceding goals,” Truter told the media.

Truter has also praised the coaching duo of Mabhuti Khenyeza and Vusi Vilakazi, as he feels they are brave. He expects them to deploy a high press, as they boast of lots of energy.

“Very offensive team, I think Mabhuti (Khenyeza) and Vusi (Vilakazi) have been brave, they’ve been offensive, very attacking mindset and they want to impress as young coaches.

“They have lots of energy, and I’m expecting a high-pressing encounter.”
