Six overseas-based South African footballers to watch
FARPost looks at six overseas-based South African footballers to watch out for in the 2022/23 season.
The midfield dynamo has hit the ground running at his Polish Eskraklasa club Radomiak Radom where he has been putting in some impressive performances in recent weeks.
Cele started all six of his club’s league games as a box-to-box midfielder. The 25-year-old has managed to work his way into the starting line-up and repaid the trust put in him by coach Mariusz Lewandowski.
ETHAN CHISLETT
In five league games for English League Two side AFC Wimbledon, the 24-year-old has already found the back of the net twice, with his recent strike coming in a 2-0 league win against Crawly Town on Saturday afternoon.
At the beginning of the season, the attacking midfielder vowed to add more goals to his game, and he has already stuck to his word.
In just a few appearances, the midfielder has already equalled his goal tally from last season.
LIAM JORDAN
Jordan has won two Man of the Match awards in succession following his brilliant start to the Danish 1st Division.
The South African international has started all four league games in the current campaign and scored three goals for FC Helsingor, who have started the season very well.
Helsingor narrowly missed out on promotion last season, and they are one of the favourites to go up this term.
KOBAMELO KODISANG
The South African youth international recently completed a loan to Portuguese second division side FC Moreirense and the winger has already upped the ante.
The 22-year-old scored a goal and laid an assist for another strike in the three league games.
Moreirense are looking to gain promotion back to the Primeira Liga, and Kodisang is at the centre of the action, having started all three league clashes.
BOIPELO MASHIGO
The only teenager on the list, Mashigo’s exploits are quickly gaining him a big reputation in Germany.
Mashigo has played six league encounters for Spvgg Unterhaching, but he has directly contributed to five goals (three goals, two assists) in the German Regionalliga.
LYLE FOSTER
Foster’s stars are indeed aligning for him at his Belgian club KVC Westerlo where he has established himself as the main striker upfront.
In four Belgian Pro League appearances, the 21-year-old has scored two goals and assisted another strike for the newly promoted club.
The South African striker has not been able to start any league game this season due to a hamstring injury that has led to him only being introduced as a second-half substitute in most games.
