Hanamub hopes for divine intervention in Namibia crisis

AmaZulu defender Riaan Hanamub has expressed concerns about the state of football in Namibia, which has been at a standstill since the end of the 2018/19 season.

The long pause is due to a battle between the Premier League and the national association.

It means there has been no action for footballers in the neighbouring country for the past three years, affecting so many people.

Namibia international Hanamub is currently doing well for Usuthu but reflects that in 2016 he found himself in a similar position as his fellow countryman back home.

“You know, I was once in the same situation in 2016. To be honest, it is challenging, and players are finding it hard because some depend on football to survive.

“They have to feed their families, so it’s a very tough situation there, and I hope God help us to make things better,” the AmaZulu defender told the media.

While the situation back home motivates him to do well, he also draws inspiration from the fact that so many talented players are looking for his opportunity.

The AmaZulu new signing, who joined the club from Chippa, knows that he needs to be consistent and work hard to maintain his position at the club.

The club has signed another left-back, Sibusiso Mabiliso, increasing competition for the position.
“You know there are so many good players that want to be in my shoes, so I have to work hard to ensure that I stay in this position.
“There could be someone better than me, who is waiting for the opportunity, so I will always give it all, so my motivation is based on so many things,” the 27-year-old said.

AmaZulu visit Cape Town City in the quarterfinal of the MTN8 Cup set for Saturday at the Athlone Stadium. Kick off is 3pm.
