Khune situation: Ex-Chiefs goalkeeper on what he told Kaizer Motaung
Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo has revealed what he told Dr Kaizer Motaung about a situation similar to Itumeleng Khune’s.
In recent seasons, the former Bafana Bafana goalie has been struggling for game time at Kaizer Chiefs, eventually losing his national team place.
His struggles have continued even under Arthur Zwane, who took over from Stuart Baxter during the off-season.
It has not helped matters that Chiefs have not started the season well after losing three games and winning twice.
Pressure is mounting on Zwane to bring back Khune with Brandon Peterson and Bruce Bvuma, who conceded four goals against Mamelodi Sundowns, battling to establish themselves.
Khuzwayo, who previously played second fiddle to the 35-year-old Khune before crossing over to bitter rivals Orlando Pirates, has weighed in on the debate.
He reveals he had a conversation with Kaizer Chiefs chairman Dr Motaung before leaving for Pirates.
The 32-year-old Khuzwayo is convinced that conversation could help Amakhoso deal better with the situation of the Ventersdorp-born keeper.
“Everyone deserves a chance. If everyone gets opportunities to play, why is Khune not given a chance to see what he can provide?
“That’s one thing I told the chairman [Dr Kaizer Motaung] when I left for Pirates.
“I wanted to get a chance to play, and at that time, they couldn’t. Whenever I got a chance, I gave it all, but because of many other things around, I couldn’t get chances, and that’s why I left,” Khuzwayo told the media.
“I don’t want that to happen to Khune. Everyone deserves a chance, regardless of age. He must be offered the same opportunity.”
Amakhosi travels to Western Cape to face stubborn Stellenbosch in the MTN8 quarterfinal set for the Danie Craven Stadium on Sunday.
The cup competition presents Zwane with another opportunity to end their seven years trophy drought.
